Welcome
to Casa Querencia!
We hope you have a memorable stay here.
Andrea will take wonderful care of you. We also wanted to let you know some of the things we love most about this place.
Our favorite way to start the day is with a walk on Kupuri Beach. For a short (one-mile) stroll, walk to the east end of the beach. For a longer walk or run, continue up the bluff to the dirt road and keep heading east past the local homes. When the road turns right, continue past the turnoff to the dead end, and you’ll see a dirt path leading back down to the beach. You can cut down to this next beach, called Litibu, and walk all the way to the next town, Higuera Blanca, another 2 miles away.
There are numerous beaches around the point, each one different. Our favorite beach, of course, is Kupuri, for swimming, bodysurfing, snorkeling, or just hanging out. The Kupuri Beach Club, next door to the house, has an Ocean Activities Center with paddle boarding, outrigger canoeing, spear fishing, kite boarding and more. The restaurant, bars, spa, kids club and boutique at the Kupuri Beach Club are all top-notch.
The Residents’ Beach Club has beautiful sunsets and a full restaurant. The St. Regis Beach Club is a little quieter, and equally beautiful. The Sufi Beach Club, next to the pier, has a sophisticated, laid-back vibe, while the new La Lancha Surf Club offers surf and paddle boards, and a DJ mixing tunes. The beach in town is lively, with snacks and local vendors on the sand.
We’d highly recommend the yoga classes in the palapa on Kupuri beach (Monday- Friday mornings, at 8 or 9:30 am.) Just show up–it’s $20 USD a person and you can use our mats (ask Pancho for them). There’s also a “Power Ropes” total body workout class at the Resident’s Beach Club on Tues., Thurs & Sat. at 10 am.
A few don’t-miss activities: The Marietas Islands are just 15 minutes away by boat, and are beautiful for snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming. When it’s whale season (Dec. –March) you should see lots of whales breaching, along with dolphins, turtles and blue-footed boobies. We would recommend going out with Ty, a local naturalist (driftingseas.com).
Surfing is excellent here, even if you’ve never tried it. The best place to learn is at the La Lancha Surf Club or right in front of town. For surf instructors, we’d recommend Mita Surf Club, on the beach in town (mita.surfschool@gmail.com). If you’re intimidated by surfing, stand-up paddle boarding is a fun, accessible sport. The best place to try is in town (rent boards from Hotel Cinco or Mita) or at the St. Regis or Residents’ Beach Club (you can rent boards right there) or you can use the boards we have at the house on our bay at Kupuri (go in the morning before the wind picks up).
For golfers, the two Jack Nicklaus courses are world-famous. Even if you don’t want to play 9 or 18 holes, you can just do the «Hole 3B Experience,» hitting out to a green on its own island. The tennis center is also one of the best in the country, with 10 grass and hard courts, lit at night, and a great pro. There’s also pickle ball and a nice fitness center there as well.
The jogging path runs from behind the house (parallel to the road) to the St. Regis or Four Seasons. Kilometers are marked out along the way. We also have several bikes at the house that you can use.
If you’d like a massage, Andrea can arrange for wonderful masseuses to come to the house. There is also a full-service spa at the Kupuri Beach Club, as well as all the hotels.
For cocktail hour, Pancho can bring your margaritas to the cocktail pool, or you can enjoy the sunset from our fire pit patio. For a special celebration, Andrea can book a sunset or all-day cruise across Banderas Bay in a sleek motor yacht, or mariachis to come to the house.
You may never want to leave the house for meals—but there are plenty of good restaurants on the beach in town, with tables in the sand and fresh seafood and Mexican flavors. One of our favorites is Mina, where they bring out the catch of the day and make guacamole fresh at your table. Try El Coral for lunch, Rosa Mexicana or Blue Shrimp for dinner. Tacos Y Papas is a little streetside taco place in town. (By the way, none of our guests have ever gotten sick from the food in town.) For a change of pace there is an excellent Italian restaurant, Casa Teresa in town, in a charming courtyard on a side street, run by an Italian family and very authentic. If you’re in the mood for pizza, Pizza Mita in town delivers, or better yet, have the chef make pizzas in our pizza oven at the house. A real treat is to walk down Kupuri Beach at sunset for a drink or dinner at Casa de Mita hotel, at the end of the beach. (Call ahead for dinner reservations.) For a gourmet experience, we’d recommend Tuna Blanca at Hotel Cinco in town. It’s one of the best restaurants in Mexico, on the beach, very elegant. Sufi is a wonderful “Mexiterranean” restaurant at Porta Fortuna, in the gates. The Kupuri Beach Club has an excellent Asian fusion restaurant. And of course all the hotels have good restaurants–Bahia at the Four Seasons, Sea Breeze at the St. Regis. A short ride away by car are the ultra-exclusive Imanta in Higuera Blanca and the hip W Hotel Punta de Mita with the Spice Market restaurant.
It’s hard to leave Punta Mita, but there are many towns nearby worth exploring. Sayulita is a lively surfing village with lots of shops and restaurants that cater to Americans. Be sure to sample a ChocoBanana (you can’t miss it). A few minutes further up the road is the quainter town of San Pancho, also known as San Francisco. Thursday and Saturday nights you can watch polo matches and have dinner on the sidelines. Across the bay are the beautiful beaches of Yelapa and Mismaloya, reachable only by boat. In the mountains above the coast is the colonial village of San Sebastian, known for its coffee plantations.
One adventure we’d recommend, even though it’s a little touristy, is Vallarta Adventures Zipline Adventure. You take a boat across the bay to the little town of Boca de Tomatlan, where you get on an open-air off-road vehicle to drive to an agave farm. There, you get on mules to ride to the top of the jungle, where you zipline through the canopy and down waterfalls into rivers. It’s an all-day experience, and a lot of fun. There is also a smaller zipline at Rancho Mi Chaparrita, on the way to Sayulita. And you can rent horses to ride on the beach or ATVs to take through the jungle from Rancho Montalbena, in the neighboring town of Higuera Blanca.
You can find phone numbers for all of these recommendations from the Punta Mita app. Or ask Andrea for more information.
Enjoy!
